Tech Tea and Tales

We are excited to be collaborating with the Golden Plains Shire to introduce an exciting new program for youth and seniors.
Young job seekers in the Shire will be offered paid employment to teach technology skills to seniors, and to record some of their life stories and experiences. Older people will be invited to participate for free and will have the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with a friendly younger person, learning new ways of using technology to enhance their daily lives, and sharing some of their interests and experiences back with the young. If you would like to apply to be one of the young Tech and Story Helpers, or if you are an older resident looking to get your technology questions answered and to connect with some inspiring local young people, get in touch with the Community Centre.

Welcome to 2017

Happy new year. Over the next couple of weeks our office will be staffed intermittently and we will be checking the phones. If you need to contact leave a message or call before you come in. We will be fully back on deck as of 23rd January. Occasional care starts on 13th Feb.

Fire Awareness

Fire ready

CFA Fire ready.

Predictions are we can expect another year of above average fire risk and the long term decline in cool season rainfall combines with the strengthening el nino in the Pacific.
The CFA Fire Ready Victoria program is an informative session regarding bush fire safety. Find out:

  • what you can expect?
  • how do you prepare?
  • where do I go?
  • when do I leave?

Don't leave it until it is too late.

Fire Ready session.

November 18th, 7.00 pm at the Community Centre.

We are Learn Local Legends

We are thrilled to be recognised as the Learn Local Legend for our region at 2015 Learn Local Awards. It is great that even small Centres like ours are acknowledged for the work we do. It is very humbling to be included when you hear some of the amazing stories from other Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses around Victoria. We all have the capacity to provide life-changing opportunities for the people who participate at our Centres.

We have moved in

Last week we started to move back into the new Meredith Community Learning Hub. While the Children’s services are still waiting for their licences to be approved we have moved into the office area, playgroup and the Maternal Health Nurse were both in today enjoying the new and refurbished spaces. We have new furniture and fittings arriving to make the place feel like a lovely welcoming space. We are still experiencing the glitches of a new building like a rogue smoke alarm sounding all day today and some water ingress, it will soon be a great community space for the Community Centre, Occasional Care and Kindergarten.
